“Morning // Mourning” is set 1.6 billion years into the future, where humans no longer exist and Earth undergoes a remarkable transformation. Through a dynamic blend of live music, modern opera, and drama, a five-person ensemble of vocalists and multi-instrumentalists narrates the story of nature’s regrowth. Led by Gelsey Bell and inspired by Alan Weisman’s The World Without Us, the performance combines whimsical storytelling with breathtaking music, illustrating the profound resilience of nature. It invites the audience to reflect on their connection to the planet, offering a hopeful glimpse into a post-human future where nature flourishes in ways both awe-inspiring and unexpected.
